New Year, New Me!!!! But Here’s the Thing . . .

So, it’s still the wake of the New Year and a great deal of us are caught up in the idea of a new beginning; we take a deep breath, hold ourselves accountable for the things we feel should be different and vow to change.

Usually, by January 3rd we’ve all abandoned hope.

I’m the worst for this kind of thing, or I used to be; every year I would swear to eat healthy (or less tacos, anyway), go Paleo, drink less coffee and (this is huge) eat less or no sugar.

Every year by midday on January 2nd I would be daydreaming about the taco dinner I ate the night before, usually while drinking my 5th cup of coffee (and maybe eating a doughnut. WHAT.)

I abandoned the practice a few years ago but this year I decided that maybe my resolutions need to be aimed inward- beautify from the inside out, right?

So this year I will talk less and listen more; I will be a sweeter daughter, a more attentive mother.

A better friend.

Most of all, I won’t give time and attention to things- and people! who don’t deserve either.

Time is short and it’s the most precious commodity that any of us have, so I will no longer treat it wastefully but spend it with purpose.

Lastly, I’m going to let my sweet flag fly this year!

There are plenty of freak flags; mine can be a little different.

In a time of rampant self-absorption, perhaps it’s OK to put my focus on how I leave those around me and worry a little less about myself except for the self-care ways that really count.

So, that’s it for this first (very short week) here in Chick and Chickadee Land!

We discussed my favorite ways to hide a crippling hangover and the ways in which I hope to be better in the year ahead; what are your resolutions for 2016?
